Asia Society Policy Institute’s Center for China Analysis (CCA) is seeking an exceptional part-time Research Assistant with demonstrated experience in researching the People’s Liberation Army (PLA), China’s territorial disputes, and/or Beijing's perspectives on regional security. The Research Assistant will contribute to a major report on deterrence issues related to China in the Indo-Pacific.
The Asia Society Policy Institute, a think- and do- tank with a policy-solving mandate that tackles major policy challenges confronting the Asia-Pacific in security and diplomacy; trade, investment, and innovation; climate and energy; and society, technology, and public health.
Established in 2022, CCA is committed to decoding China's complexities with an "inside-out" approach by offering evidence-based, independent, and policy-relevant analyses with a balanced, holistic, and human-centered focus, covering Chinese domestic politics; economy and technology; foreign policy and national security; climate, energy and the environment; society, public health, and education.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Provide expert research assistance on China, deterrence, and the military balance in the Indo-Pacific, primarily using Chinese-language sources.
Project management work in support of the above research.
Additional duties as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS:
Ideal for a graduate student in a PhD program or specialized master’s program.
Demonstrated experience in conducting Chinese-language and English-language research on the PLA, Chinese military doctrine, Chinese views on regional security and territorial disputes, and/or China-related deterrence issues.
Advanced or native ability in Chinese, especially in reading and translation.
Advanced or native ability in English, with strong communication skills.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Microsoft Excel.
Be based in the United States as well as have U.S. work authorization.
COMPENSATION:
$20.00/per hour.
10 month Assignment-Part Time-Temporary
