Vice President - Japan Energy Practice (Tokyo-based)
A premier strategic and capital advisory firm is seeking a Vice President for its Japan Practice in Tokyo. The role requires deep expertise in traditional and renewable energy markets, with the ability to advise clients on Japan's energy policy landscape and stakeholder environment.

The Role
Reporting to the Tokyo-based Managing Director and collaborating with colleagues in the US and Japan, this Vice President will manage client relationships, oversee project execution, and drive strategic initiatives for the Japan market. Responsibilities include developing market entry strategies, strengthening regulatory relationships, and delivering policy-driven solutions that help clients navigate opportunities across Japan and the Indo-Pacific.
Key Responsibilities
- Manage client engagements and project delivery, including written deliverables, briefings, and client requests
- Develop policy-focused strategies aligned with clients' business objectives in Japan
- Supervise team members and support their professional development
- Produce analysis of political, economic, and regulatory trends in Japan's energy sector
- Build and maintain strategic stakeholder relationships across Japan's energy ecosystem
- Support business development through opportunity identification and proposal development
- Coordinate client activities and executive visits to Japan
- Represent the firm at industry conferences and policy forums
Required Qualifications
- Graduate degree with 10+ years of relevant experience in energy, sustainability, or economic policy in Asia
- Background in public sector, government relations, or consulting with ability to integrate policy and business strategy
- Exceptional communication skills and ability to present effectively to senior executives in multinational settings
- Strong leadership and team management experience with high emotional intelligence
- Deep knowledge of Japan's energy policy, regulatory environment, and commercial trends
- Proven client servicing and project management experience
- Flexibility with work hours to coordinate with U.S.-based teams and regional offices
- Professional-level English and native-level Japanese proficiency
- Current work authorization for Japan required
