Position Summary
This position supports McLarty Associates’ Asian Practices, including the work of the Southeast Asia, China, South Asia, and Northeast Asia (Japan & Korea) Practices. We are seeking a bright, resourceful individual for an entry-level, paid, fellowship. The position is 30 - 40 hours/week, starting as soon as possible. This position is based in Washington, DC, and fellows will be expected to work in person four days a week.
As a fellow, you will work on a variety of projects with different engagement teams. The program aims to give you exposure to the breadth of our services and client work. You will work closely with our professionals – Associate through Director – and gain first-hand experience in consulting. Your assignments may involve work in news tracking, political analysis, memo writing, and/or note-taking at client meetings.
Responsibilities of the position include, but are not limited to:
- monitoring news outlets for relevant policy developments;
- preparing presentations and other client deliverables;
- compiling biographies, preparing presentations and client deliverables;
- conducting research and analysis of economic, political, trade, technology, public policy, international, financial, and business issues;
- assisting firm-wide communications;
- attending and reporting on speeches, panel discussions, and policy forums of interest to the firm and clients;
- assisting professional staff with general office and administrative support;
- other duties as assigned.
- The workload is split between the Asia practices as follows:
- Southeast Asia (75%)
- China (15%)
- South Asia (5%)
- Northeast Asia (5%)
Minimum Qualifications
- Have recently completed or are currently enrolled in a graduate program, or have recently completed an undergraduate degree in international relations, political science, international business, Asian studies, or a related field;
- Possess a broad understanding of international politics, economics, trade, technology, government relations, business, and entrepreneurship;
- Have a robust background, demonstrated interest, and/or experience living or studying in Asia;
- Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the US.
Desired Qualities
- Highly organized, self-motivated, and proactive, with strong attention to detail and the ability to anticipate team needs;
- Skilled in managing multiple projects under pressure, adapting to changing priorities, and exercising professionalism, sound judgment, and discretion;
- Excellent communication, research, and writing skills;
- Proficiency in PowerPoint, Excel, Office 365, Adobe Acrobat, and other business tools and media platforms;
- Knowledge of an Asiatic language is preferred.
