You will be part of McKinsey’s Risk function, whose mission is to enable McKinsey’s client impact and innovation, while managing risks to the firm, our clients, and our people. This opportunity involves deep interaction across other areas of the Risk function and the firm as a whole with a focus on monitoring, reporting on, and supporting the development of mitigation plans around geopolitical risks that the firm faces globally.
The role reports to the Partner, Global Director of Geopolitical Risk and will be based in Europe or North America.
What You'll Do
You will work with the Partner, Global Director of Geopolitical Risk as part of the Geopolitical Risk team on framing, monitoring, and mitigating the geopolitical risks that the firm faces in its global client service and operations.
This involves combining a deep risk-ownership mindset and outstanding judgment to manage complex geopolitical risk issues and execute on a clear set of strategic projects and deliverables.
You will help strengthen our internal geopolitical risk knowledge & capabilities, lead end-to-end strategic projects from conducting country risk assessments to developing and driving awareness of risk guardrails around sensitive domains.
You will also serve as a strategic counsellor to Firm leaders on key geopolitical developments and build trust-based relationships.
You will help lead content expertise on geopolitical risk topics by developing thought leadership, risk guardrails and leveraging a distinctive external geopolitical risk network to import strategic insights that help define our risk appetite and controls.
You will provide dynamic, people-centered leadership across the team, investing in the team’s professional development and growth, model apprenticeship and collaboration.
Qualifications
- 10+ years of professional experience in international affairs, public policy, journalism, or risk operations
- Ability to scope and drive strategic projects end-to-end in close partnership with other teams with agility and an entrepreneurial spirit
- Strong personal presence and credibility; ability to counsel senior leaders on geopolitical developments, strategic implications and policy guidance and develop trust-based, counselor relationships
- Commitment to people-centric leadership, apprenticeship and mentorship
- Strong external geopolitical risk network from which to source strategic insights
- Excellent analytical, problem-solving skills – demonstrated ability to manage complex, sensitive and time-critical issues
- Solutions-oriented and resilient; experienced and comfortable engaging in challenging discussions with senior colleagues, balancing robustness and persistence with diplomacy, flexibility and tact
- Outstanding written and oral communication skills, including clear and concise writing and editorial skills
