Position Overview
Our client is seeking a Vice President to join their China practice in Washington, DC. The ideal candidate will possess substantial China experience, including in-country work, and have recently held relevant roles in business, consulting or government focused on trade, economics, or foreign policy. The role requires a strong understanding of China's political, regulatory, and macroeconomic landscape, with the ability to translate these trends into actionable insights for commercial clients across a wide range of industries.
Core Functions
- Partner with executive leadership to advance the China practice's strategic objectives, including coordination with the firm's Asia-based operations
- Lead client engagement workstreams, overseeing analytical products, providing expert consultation, and ensuring responsive service delivery
- Create insightful analysis on evolving Chinese political, regulatory, and economic landscapes for the firm's diverse clientele
- Contribute to practice growth through strategic prospect identification, relationship development, and compelling proposal creation
- Establish and leverage professional networks across Washington policy circles and Chinese commercial/governmental spheres
Candidate Profile
- Postgraduate qualification or comparable professional background with China-focused specialization
- Professional trajectory demonstrating 7-10 years of progressive responsibility in relevant fields
- Background bridging policy considerations with business imperatives, preferably in advisory or strategic roles
- Comprehensive knowledge of US-China trade relationships, policy mechanisms, and bilateral engagement structures
- Sophisticated understanding of decision-making processes, regulatory environments, and key influencers within China
- Sector knowledge preferred in one or more areas: healthcare/life sciences, digital technology, consumer markets, industrial production, or financial services
- Exceptional presentation and communication capabilities, with proven ability to engage effectively with C-suite executives
- Team leadership experience with demonstrated mentoring abilities
- Previous professional immersion in Chinese policy or business contexts (highly valued)
- Chinese language capabilities (advantageous but not required)
