About Horizon Engage
Horizon Engage is a New York-based strategic intelligence platform that delivers the clarity global investors need to make smarter decisions.
A founder-run advisory operating and steadily growing since 2003, Horizon Engage counts the senior leaderships of the world’s largest energy, renewables and mining companies among its clients. We cover over 70 countries, supported by a network of 100+ in-country experts.
Our team helps clients navigate their most critical questions about governments, policies, and people – through the lens of industry insight and practical, business-focused advice.
Building on this track record, Horizon Engage is now extending its model to a new audience: financial markets clients. This role is central to that expansion.
The Role
Horizon Engage is seeking a senior geopolitical and macro strategist to help support a new offering for financial markets clients, as Director, Global Macro. This is a rare opportunity to shape a new product from the ground up at a firm with more than two decades of credibility advising the world’s largest corporates on geopolitical risk and strategic intelligence.
The Director will bring a global, cross-regional lens – spanning elections, central bank and fiscal policy, sanctions and trade measures, and conflict and security dynamics – and turn that view into analysis investors can act on.
This is a client-facing role that supports the commercial growth of the financial markets product. You will work closely with the commercial lead for this product, pairing your analytical credibility with their commercial relationships - spotting trading signals and themes and helping convert interest into engagement, while the commercial lead owns the deal itself. You will also write analysis and brief clients and prospects directly.
Key Responsibilities
The Director, Global Macro will have primary responsibility for shaping and delivering Horizon Engage’s coverage for financial markets clients, including:
- Global macro analysis: Write and deliver high-conviction, market-relevant analysis on how political and policy developments around the world are likely to affect currencies, rates, equities and credit – connecting dots across regions rather than staying confined to one. Must be able to synthesize the firm’s 70+ country intelligence base, distilling into clear, actionable macro themes and cross-asset trading ideas.
- New business development: Partner with the commercial lead for the financial markets product to support new and existing client relationships. Represent the analytical substance of the product in sales meetings, from first pitch to signed contract.
- Client relations: Build and maintain direct relationships with portfolio managers, strategists and other investment decision-makers, briefing them on demand and anticipating the questions markets will be asking next.
- Product development: Help define the shape of the financial markets offering itself – cadence, format, and coverage priorities – drawing on your own experience of what investors actually use and value, with a focus on repackaging and augmenting Horizon Engage’s existing content base for financial services clients.
- Editorial collaboration: Work with Horizon Engage’s regional and sector specialists to bring their on-the-ground insight into a global macro frame, ensuring the product benefits from the firm’s existing bench of expertise.
- External profile: Represent Horizon Engage at conferences and in the media, building the firm’s reputation and network within the financial markets community.
Candidate Profile
- Experience: 10+ years in political risk, macro strategy, investment research or a closely related field, with a track record of advising financial markets clients – hedge funds, asset managers, or bank research – on the intersection of geopolitics and markets. Candidates with direct buy-side experience – for example, a macro role at a hedge fund or private credit investor – are also of strong interest.
- Market fluency: Fluency in how political and policy developments move currencies, rates, equities and credit. You think and write like someone who has sat across the table from portfolio managers, not just policy audiences.
- Commercial instinct: Comfortable operating in a client-facing, sales-supportive role. You’re naturally attuned to what clients and prospects need, quick to spot client relationship-building as a part of the job.
- Communication skills: Superb writing, editing and presentation skills. Ability to distill complex, fast-moving developments into a clear, timely view under deadline pressure.
- Global outlook: Maintain a global frame of reference, comfortable moving across regions and topics rather than specializing narrowly in one market or geography.
- Education: Degree in International Relations, Politics, Economics, Finance or a related field, or equivalent professional experience.
- Location: Based in and must have work authorization in the US or UK.
